The Salvation Army, Community Church of Columbus and the Bartholomew County Substance Abuse Council hosted the free live music and food event, “The Salvation Army Presents: Party Safe at Pence Street Park.” The event featured Christian music from bands including Columbus’ popular Mayan Miscalculation and a Cuban group, Mercy’s Lake from Louisville.

Columbus couple Marilyn Oltman and Ralph Hoard rescued an 11-year-old blind cougar named Charlie from a home in Jennings County. Oltman and Hoard already had a rescued cougar named Peshia, who they got from her previous owner in Brown County.
1974
Jean Tinguely, Swiss sculptor of Chaos I at The Commons, was the special guest at the first birthday party for the Columbus Visitors Center. Tinguely gave out limited edition autographed posters of his sketch of Chaos I, of which only 2,000 were printed.
