Denise Kaye Johnson-Lucas, age 70, of Norman, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Lucas was a housewife. She loved and treasured her family dearly, and she also loved and had a passion for sewing for other people, especially residents of nursing homes. She loved her cat, Willie, and she was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

Born on October 15, 1953, in Bartholomew County, Denise was the daughter of Granville Johnson and Charles and Shirley Johnson-Mitchner, all of whom preceded her in death. On September 20, 1997, in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, she married Randall Steven Lucas, and he survives in Norman.

Survivors also include one stepson, Darin Christopher (Crystal) Lucas of Columbus; one sister, Joyce (Noel) Pelegrina of Florida; sister-in-law, Penny Jo (J.R.) Feeney of North Vernon; sister-in-law, Pam Lucas of Columbus; brother-in-law, Tim (Susan) Lucas of Greensburg; four grandchildren: Shelby (Noah) Pollert, Kendra McDaniel, Kelsay (Dayton) Moore, and Sydni (Elijah) Young; and five great-grandchildren: Austyn Pollert, Wyatt Pollert, Emmalynn Moore, Waylon Moore, and Raiden McDaniel.

Denise was also preceded in death by one stepson, Randy S. Lucas; and brothers-in-law: Roger Lucas and Doyle Lucas, Jr.

A funeral service for Denise Kaye Johnson-Lucas will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be given to the Jackson County Humane Society through Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.
