East’s graduating class focuses on the future

Commencement for Columbus East High School’s graduating seniors was on Saturday afternoon.

The 384 graduating Olympians gave a final send off to their high school careers in East’s main gymnasium as friends and family looked on in a packed Orange Pit.

Erin Elizabeth Walters was salutatorian and Greta Anne Hemmerlein was valedictorian of this year’s class and each gave a speech reflecting on the journey the school’s 51st class of students embarked on and provided a look into the future.

East’s paper toss tradition took place after graduation practice on May 20.
