2014
Two lifelong friends from Columbus, Jacob Grow and Daniel Eddelman, pursued careers as surgeons in different specialty fields. Grow began residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, specializing in plastic surgery, and Eddelman headed to Rush University Medical Center in Chicago as a neurosurgical resident.
1999
Students from Cheryl Zuckschwerdt’s junior English class at Columbus East High School became acquainted with their local heritage as they researched for their project “Highlights of the 20th Century in Bartholomew County.” Their reports resulted from a collaboration among East, the Bartholomew County Historical Society and The Republic.
1974
The annual Homemade Ice Cream and Strawberry Festival, sponsored by the Romine Union of Women’s Christian Temperance Union, was held at the St. Louis Crossing Community Center. The festival also celebrated the 100th anniversary of WCTU.
