Prep sports notebook: Softball, tennis players make All-State

Hauser senior Paige McDaniel has been named 1A/2A First-Team All-State by the Softball Coaches Association of Indiana.

McDaniel finished her career with school-records of 76 wins and 608 strikeouts. She also finished with a .443 career batting average, 11 home runs and 99 RBIs.

Jennings County senior Kenzie Matern was named 3A/4A Third-Team All-State.

Bull Dogs selected All-State, All-District

Several Columbus North girls tennis players have been named to the All-State and All-District 8 teams by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association.

North senior Kathryn Wilson, who won her second consecutive state singles title on Saturday, was named First-Team All-State in singles. North junior Aya Saad was named Second-Team All-State in singles. Jennings County senior Tatum Brown was honorable mention in singles.

North junior Lizzie Bodart and sophomore Lucy Bergman were named All-State honorable mention in doubles.

Wilson, Saad and Brown are All-District 8 in singles. Bodart and Bergman were named All-District in doubles.

Olympians, Panthers make All-HHC

Two Columbus East and one Jennings County player have been named to the All-Hoosier Hills Conference baseball First Team.

East senior Blake Borkhardt and junior Jackson Watkins are joined of the first team by Jennings senior Austin Byford. East sophomore Stone Myers and Jennings senior Cole Sigler made honorable mention.

Hensley named North baseball MVP

Senior Connor Hensley was selected Most Valuable Player of the Columbus North baseball team at its postseason awards banquet. Hensley also received Offense Player of the Year.

Senior Ryan Rayburn was named Most Valuable Pitcher, sophomore Brock Kintner was named Most Versatile Player and senior Rylan Wormer won the Mental Attitude Award. Sophomore Sam Perry won the Bull Dog Award and the Brad Everett Integrity Award and was named Defensive Player of the Year.
