Dal Louis Grimes Jr. “Little Dal”, 61, of Columbus, passed from this life on Thursday, July 25th, 2024, at the home he shared with his sister and lifelong best friend, Joyce Vera. He passed peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.

Dal “Little Dal” was born June 30th, 1963, in Columbus, Indiana, the son of Dal Sr. and Gladys Purdue Grimes.

“Little Dal” was truly one of a kind and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He didn’t know a stranger and easily made friends. He was well known for his sarcastic attitude, sense of humor and threw in his “good looks” whenever the chance arose. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and camping amongst his favorites. He also had a love for old cars, skulls and eagles. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed bantering back and forth with his sister, Joyce, whom he often referred to as his “sister-mom” and “Bossy Bloomers”. Dal had a big heart and loved animals including his beloved dog, Honey and cat, Gurtie P.

Survivors include his son, Joshua D. Morgan; daughters, Katherine Stewart, both of Columbus, Brittany (Joe) Brashears of Charlestown; grandchildren, Josiah Jameson and Gavin Grayson; siblings, Debbie (Tony) Olmsted also of Columbus, Sandy Corona Burton of Franklin, Joyce Vera of Columbus and Tammy Shepard of Commiskey. Caretakers include his niece, Ana (Jorge) Alejos and nephew, Jeffery Vera, both of Columbus. He is also survived by several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Brenda Torres and brother, James “Dallas” Grimes.

In keeping with the family’s wishes, cremation will take place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
