College sports notebook: Wilsons lead Purdue in tourney at Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Kathryn Wilson won a singles and a doubles match Friday to lead Purdue in Vanderbilt’s June Stewart Invitational.

Wilson, a freshman from Columbus North, beat Kentucky’s Ellie Myers 7-5, 5-7, (10-5) in singles and teamed with Tara Katarina Milic to defeat Clemson’s Gaia Parravicini and Annabelle Davis 6-3 in doubles.

Ashlie Wilson, a junior from North, teamed with Sophie Schwartz to beat Lipscomb’s Sofia Paladi and Serafima Bobrovnikova 6-4 in doubles. Ashlie Wilson lost her singles match to Kentucky’s Tess Bucher 6-4, 6-0.

Huffman, Parks help Hanover to win

NORTH MANCHESTER — Blake Huffman led Hanover with 74 yards rushing on nine carries Saturday in a 55-7 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win at Manchester.

Huffman, a senior from Columbus North, also caught three passes for 31 yards.

Malachi Parks, a senior from Columbus East, completed 7 of 9 passes for 39 yards and carried twice for nine yards for the Panthers (4-3, 3-1).

Blythe sees action in Centre victory

GEORGETOWN, Texas — Tyler Blythe carried three times for 15 yards Saturday in Centre’s 38-28 Southern Athletic Association win at Southwestern.

Blythe, a sophomore from Columbus North, also caught one pass for one yard for the Colonels (6-1, 4-0).

Bennett helps Marian to pair of wins

Sarah Bennett led Marian with six blocks and added six kills and a dig Wednesday in a three-set Crossroads League win at Huntington.

Clark nets 11 digs, 2 aces in defeat

BETHANY, W.Va. — Andie Clark recorded 11 digs in Bethany’s five-set Presidents’ Athletic Conference loss to Waynesburg on Wednesday.

Tong runs in Great Lakes Challenge

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Akot Tong finished 158th to help IU East to an eighth-place team finish in the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge.
