MALE

Jace Works // Columbus North junior cross-country runner

Works placed 15th individually to earn All-State honors and lead the Bull Dogs to a sixth-place team finish in the state finals.

His performance last week: “All the right pieces came together at the right time because my ultimate goal this season was to get top-25 individually.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I always eat pasta the night before. It makes me feel comfortable and ready to go.”

Favorite drink: “Dr. Pepper”

Favorite food: “Cheeseburgers and fries”

Favorite class: “Math. It just comes to me naturally.”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana University men’s basketball”

Favorite athlete: “(Professional track athletes) Cole Hocker or Jakob Ingebrigtsen”

Role model: “My parents (Klint and Tania Works). Both of them were runners growing up, and I can just look up to them. I just really appreciate them for what they do and how they support me.”

Best advice: “Just give it your all all the time. Don’t hold back. When the moment is right, it all comes together.”

Athletics goal: “I want to try to run in college and go D-I. In track, I want to make it to state in the 800 and maybe even the 4×800. Then next cross-country season, my goal would be to get top-10 or maybe even top-five.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I really want to go to Cancun because I like the warm weather and the nice beaches. I’ve never been out of the US before, so I think it would be a cool travel adventure.”

Works took 102nd individually to help lead the Bull Dogs to a 10th-place team finish in the state finals.

Her performance last week: “I feel like I was ready, but I also had a little bit of a struggle mid-race. But I got through it.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Normally the night before, I eat spaghetti because it’s good race fuel.”

Favorite drink: “I like Root Beer.”

Favorite food: “Spaghetti”

Favorite class: “I like my Architecture class.”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana University”

Favorite athlete: “(Professional track athlete) Parker Valby”

Role model: “My parents (Klint and Tania Works)”

Best advice: “Just try your best at everything, and don’t ever regret anything that you’ve done.’’

Athletics goal: “I want to break 18:30 (for 5K/3.1 miles in cross-country) next season.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Hawaii, just because it seems like a cool place to go, and everyone that I’ve seen go there likes it.”
