FRANKLIN — The last time the Columbus North girls basketball team had taken the court, the Bull Dogs endured one of the most lopsided defeats in program history, a 74-25 loss to Franklin in the sectional semifinals.
But with the Grizzly Cubs losing 11 of the 12 players from their sectional championship team and North returning most of its lineup, Saturday’s rematch in the Bull Dogs’ 2024-25 season opener was a different story — a 57-43 road victory.
Franklin jumped out to a 14-9 lead after one quarter, but North came back to take a 32-26 halftime lead. The Grizzly Cubs trimmed the margin to 38-34 after three quarters before the Bull Dogs outscored them 19-9 in the final period.
North was able to pull away, despite going 3 of 10 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter. The Bull Dogs were 10 of 21 from the line for the game.
Senior Hadassah Hurt, who missed the final two-thirds of last season with an ACL injury, led North with 18 points. Paige Terry and Avery Johnson each scored nine, while Kaylie Harmon had eight and Kenna Conrad added seven.
