Sylva’s big game not enough in IUC loss

McKENZIE, Tenn. — Columbus East graduate Ben Sylva scored a career-high 20 points Saturday, but IU Columbus took a 106-69 men’s basketball loss at Bethel (Tennessee).

Sylva, a transfer from Olivet Nazarene, went 8 of 11 from the field, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range. He added three rebounds in 25 minutes of action.

Damontae Thompson had 16 points, three assists and four steals for the Crimson Pride (0-7). Gavin Dowling added eight points and four rebounds, and Bobby Wonnell scored seven points.

IUC will visit Saint Xavier (Illinois) on Monday before returning home to face Lourdes on Thursday.
