Six players and two coaches from the Class A state champion Trinity Lutheran volleyball team have been recognized by the Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association.
Janet VanLiew is the Class A Coach of the Year, and Ruth Bingham is Assistant Coach of the Year. Seniors Addie Darlage, Carson Bowling, Laura Roeder and Madison Keith are on the Class A first team; while junior Bailey Bonde and freshman Rachel Bonde made the second team.
Jennings County’s Addison Martin and Avynn Belding made the 3A All-South District team.
Jennings’ Kent signs with Bethel
Jennings County senior boys basketball player Carter Kent signed to continue his basketball career at Bethel University in a signing ceremony.
Kent led the Panthers with 24.8 points, 5.8 assists and 1.8 steals and added 5.3 rebounds last year as a junior.
Brown, Gribbins named North boys soccer co-MVPs
Senior defenders Sam Brown and Konnor Gribbins have been named co-MVPs of the Columbus North boys soccer team.
Gribbins also won the Dave Green Spirit of the Game Award. Jonah Sipes was named Most Improved, and Angel Espejel won the Bull Dog Award.
Glick selected East girls soccer MVP
Sophie Glick was named Most Valuable Player of the Columbus East girls soccer team during its annual postseason team banquet.
Glick and Cadence Zeser were named Most Valuable on Offense, and Morgan Scott and Bree Hatcher were named Most Valuable on Defense. Zeser and Scott received the Mental Attitude Award. Cara Veach, Gigi Ghuman and Lilah Glick were named Most Improved.
Hauser announces XC awards
The Hauser cross-country team has announced its season awards for this year.
State qualifier Nolan Dailey received the Leadership Award. Mason Moore won the Positive Attitude Award, and Max Moore received the Perseverance Award.
IHSAA realings track postseason
The IHSAA has realigned the boys and girls track and field postseason.
Columbus North now will host both the boys and girls sectional. That sectional will include Columbus East, Hauser, Jennings County, South Decatur, Greensburg, Jac-Cen-Del, Lawrenceburg, Milan, North Decatur, Rising Sun, South Dearborn and South Ripley.
That sectional, for both boys and girls, will feed into the Bloomington North Regional. The state finals have been moved to North Central High School in Indianapolis.
