City officials have approved an agreement with an audio/visual company to improve the multimedia capabilities of several rooms at Columbus City Hall.
The Board of Public Works and Safety has approved an agreement with AVI Systems for just under $299,000 for the work.
The agreement will lead to upgrades in five spots at city hall: the council chambers, Cal Brand Meeting Room, two conference rooms and the law library.
That will encompass integration of WebEx capability so community members at home can follow along with what’s taking place in the room, as well as have easy viewing of any materials being presented.
AVI will also be upgrading various microphone equipment to improve audio quality and provide additional microphones.
“That was one of the reasons we chose this company is that all of the microphones will be Bluetooth, so there won’t be cords anymore,” Jody Coffman, the city’s communications and event coordinator, told board members.
Columbus City Council members agreed to appropriate $300,000 for the purpose during their meeting on June 18. Council members said the upgrades are much-needed and long-overdue.
There’s about an eight-week turnaround to get the requisite equipment, so installation will get started near the top of next year, according to Coffman.
