COLUMBUS, Ind. — A former butcher at the former Savory Swine is planning to open a new butcher shop in downtown Columbus next month that offers a variety of cuts of meat, some locally sourced products and grab-and-go lunches.
The new butcher shop, which currently expected to be called “The Butcher Shop,” will be located at 410 Washington St. and is expected to open to the public on Thursday. The location used to house the Savory Swine, which closed in 2023 after 11 years in business.
“I was the butcher at the Savory Swine for about 10 years,” Zarek England, head butcher and owner of the new butcher shop, told The Republic. “(Being a butcher) wasn’t anything I ever wanted to stop doing. The job wasn’t there anymore.”
England said he plans to employ no more than 10 people.
The new butcher shop is expected to offer fresh cuts of beef, poultry, seafood and pork, including specialty sausages, as well as locally-sourced products, and grab-and-go lunch offerings, including deli sandwiches.
