COLUMBUS
Bonita Ellen Smith, 73, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Brown County Health &Living Community.
Bonita was born in Columbus, August 12, 1951, the daughter of Jesse I. Smith and Anna Ellen Hubbard Smith Dillinger.
Bonita graduated from Columbus High School in 1969. She was a firefighter and past fire chief at Romney Volunteer Fire Department in Lafayette. Bonita worked in health care, she was a care technician at Columbus Regional Health for 18 years and she was a private care giver for many years.
Bonita enjoyed sewing and spending time with her beloved dogs, Jack, Bear, Jazzy and Bailey.
Bonita will be remembered by her sons, Jason (Danielle) Perry of Columbus, Brady (Amanda Fox) Clement of Columbus and Nathan Clement of Columbus; grandchildren, Hayley Perry (Jacob Riddle) of Columbus, Hanna (Brandon) Brooks of Columbus, Tristan Perry of Columbus, Matthew Perry of Columbus, Trevor Perry of Columbus, Sidney Perry of Columbus, Ethan Perry of Columbus, Jenna Perry of Columbus, Madison Clement of Columbus and Makinzy Clement of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Gunner Riddle, Ryder Riddle, Lainey Riddle and Adaleigh Brooks all of Columbus; brother, Denny (Mary) Smith of Columbus; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.
Bonita was preceded in death by her parents; son, Rodney Perry; and her sister, Janet Faye Smith.
The funeral will be conducted at 12 p.m. Monday, December 2, 2024, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; the Reverend Roy Hendershot will officiate.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Bonita will be laid to rest at the Daugherty Cemetery.
