When the 2000 Indiana All-Star team was announced, Corey Seegers was a little disappointed that he wasn’t included.

Now, 25 years later, the Columbus North graduate has been selected as part of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s Silver Anniversary Team. While the All-Star roster is usually limited to 12 or 13 players, the Silver Anniversary team includes 18.

“I was surprised,” Seegers said. “Obviously, very honored to be part of that. I wasn’t fortunate enough to make the All-Star team back in 2000. There was a lot of talent on that team. A lot of family, friends, AAU teammates thought I should have been on the team, but it didn’t work out that way. This is almost a justifying feeling.”

The 2000 All-Star team, led by future college and NBA stars Jared Jeffries and Zach Randolph, is regarded as one of the best Indiana All-Star teams of all time. The team swept Kentucky in the home-and-home series and sent several players on to big college careers.

The 6-foot-8 Seegers averaged 16.6 points and 7.0 rebounds as a senior in leading the Joe Preda-coached Bull Dogs to a 13-9 season. He finished his career with 895 points and 392 rebounds.

Seegers was named AP high honorable mention All-State, IBCA honorable mention All-State, HBCA All-District 3 as a senior. He was a three-time All-Sectional player, two-time team MVP, two-time All-Conference Indiana player and two-time The Republic Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

“I was happy with my senior year more than anything, I was proud of our team,” Seegers said. “That was one of the winningest seasons we had seen at Columbus North in quite awhile. There were eight seniors on the team, so we had been playing together since middle school. To be able to spend that much time with the guys you had been playing with, it was a good season to go out on.”

Seegers played one year of college basketball at Morehead State before playing his final three seasons at St. Joseph’s in Rensselaer. He totaled 1,358 points and 513 points in his four-year college career and was honorable mention All-Great Lakes Valley Conference as a sophomore, second-team All-GLVC as a junior and first-team All-GLVC and second-team NCAA Division II All-Great Lakes Region as a senior. He was inducted into the St. Joseph’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.

A 2004 graduate of St. Joseph’s, Seegers earned a degree in business management. He worked at Cummins and now works as a solutions project manager for Endress + Hauser USA in Greenwood.

Seegers’ daughter Bryleigh Binney won a Class A state title with Pioneer in 2021. His son Braden Seegers swam at North, and his youngest son Lucas Seegers is senior on the basketball team at Edinburgh. He has three grandkids.

The 2025 Hall of Fame class, Silver Anniversary team and Center Circle Officials will be honored March 19 at Primo Banquet Hall in Indianapolis. Banquet reservations will soon be available on the Hall of Fame’s website or by calling (765) 529-1891.

“It really is an honor to be part of Indiana Basketball history along with two of my former college coaches, Kyle Macy and Linc Darner, as well as so many great players from Columbus — coach (Bill) Stearman, Bill Russell, Jerry Newsom, Lance Barker and Jody Littrell, just to name a few,” Seegers said. “I think overall, I am the 17th player (boys and girls) from Columbus to receive this honor, so I’m humbled to be in the same group as them.”
