East wins inaugural HHC girls wrestling title; Panthers take second

NORTH VERNON — Columbus East had five individual champions Saturday and captured the first-ever Hoosier Hills Conference girls wrestling championship.

The Olympians scored 238 points to 219.5 for host Jennings County. Seymour edged Jeffersonville 137-36 for third.

East’s Saige Plummer (125 pounds), Madison Mount (130), Eden Knight (145), Grace McMahon (170) and Monica McMahon (190) all won their respective weight classes.

Tienica Dits (100), Sydney Morrow (105), Maddie Swartzentruber (135) and Issabel Wakefield (140) all finished second for the Olympians. Taylor Engelking (115) and Maddie Schrader (235) each took third, and Elaina Burton (120) was fourth.

Jennings’ Sasha Hicks (115) Violeta Gomez-Hilerio (120), Karli Ledbetter (140) and Savannah Bannister (155) won their weight classes. Eliza Leslie (130), Harlie Winningham (190) and Bresa Coan (235) all took second.

Also for the Panthers, Hali Fording (110), Molly Wathen (125) and Gabrella Hernandez (170) all finished third. Baylee Franks (100), Jada Duley (135) and Katherine Brunner (145) all were fourth.
