Despite temperatures in the mid-30s, hundreds of residents gathered to watch the Festival of Lights Parade and enjoy the Festival of Lights Christmas Village at The Commons. Spirits were high among eventgoers, especially after 2013’s parade was canceled due to poor weather.

A lunch of hot dogs with pork and beans was served by the River Rats in the main meeting room at Columbus City Hall to celebrate the unveiling of local legend Jack the Bum’s official portrait. Jack was fondly known as the “lifeguard of the old swimming hole.”
1974
Columbus resident Ruth Wilson was honored as a 50-year member of the Faith Rebekah Lodge and presented with a gold pompon chrysanthemum corsage by Patricia Connor. Lodge member Lucille Fawcett read an original poem written for Wilson and gave her a gold pin for her 50 years of membership.
