More than 200 volunteers delivered boxes containing $60 worth of toys, games, books, candy and necessities to 1,426 local children through the Columbus Firemen’s Cheer Fund. Larger items including bicycles and miniature basketball goals were also delivered.

Columbus couple Susan and Ted Hopkins won the 1999 Festival of Lights Home Decorating Contest. Their home, located on North County Road 25E, reminded visitors of a Christmas scene on a holiday card.

The Columbus North basketball team beat Indianapolis Manual 75-73 in a double overtime game. A last-second basket by Dave Welmer kept the eighth-ranked Bull Dogs undefeated.
