Registration is open for the 2025 Public Safety Citizen’s Academy.
Since the 90s, the Columbus Police Department has offered the Citizen’s Academy to Columbus residents, allowing them to get an inside look at public safety in our community.
This 11-week, free course will take participants behind the scenes with the Columbus Police Department, Columbus Fire Department, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office and Bartholomew County Emergency Operations Center. Participants will get to learn more about the Bomb Squad, SWAT Team and more. They will have the opportunity to tour the jail, fire CPD firearms at the range, participate in training scenarios, and learn to put out a fire with firefighters.
This year’s course will be on Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. starting on Feb. 13th and ending on May 1st. There will be no class on March 20th for spring break. Participants must be 18 or older and agree to a criminal background check.
