Central Middle School history teacher Alan Birkemeier was one of 18 teachers in the country chosen to participate in a National History Day project, focusing on the theme “Understanding Sacrifice.” Birkemeier chose to research Pvt. Chester Lane, a soldier from Bartholomew County who died in France on Armistice Day in 1944.

1999

The Southside Elementary School basketball team beat Parkside 46-21 in the Bull Dog Booster 1999-2000 Holiday Tournament at Columbus North High School.

1974

Jack Connor, Columbus Mayor Max Andress’s special projects director, was promoted to director of community development. Connor had worked for the city of Columbus for the past 10 years.
