SEYMOUR – Effective immediately , Schneck Medical Center in Seymour will begin enforcing new virus-related restrictions for visitors.
The ban on non-patients showing respiratory illness symptoms comes six days after similar restrictions went into effect at Columbus Regional Hospital. Precautions are also in place at medical facilities in other Indiana communities such as in Indianapolis and Bloomington.
Symptoms include a consistent cough, fever, hoarse voice, fatigue, red eyes, runny nose, sore throat and swelling on the sides of your neck (swollen lymph nodes).
In addition, no more than two visitors may be allowed into a patients’ room at one time. Only immediate family and significant others identified by the patient will be permitted in the patient’s rooms.
All visitors must wear a N95 or comparable face mask if instructed to do so by staff.
The action is being taken in response to increased activity of respiratory viruses such as flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which is the leading cause of infant hospitalization in the United States.
Visitors should clean their hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer before entering and exiting patient rooms.
