SUMMERFIELD, FL
John Edward Arterburn, formerly of Columbus, Indiana, passed away on January 26, 2025 at Orlando Regional Medical Center in Florida at the age of 79. He was born on December 18, 1945 in Columbus, Indiana.
John graduated from Columbus High School in 1964 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army where he spent 3 years, including an 11-month assignment in Vietnam. Following his return from Vietnam in 1967, he met Ann W. Russell, and they married in June 1968 in Columbus.
He was employed for 30 years at Cummins Engine Company in Columbus. His biggest hobby was playing golf with family and his good buddies from Cummins. Upon retirement on January 1, 1999, John spent winters at their Stonecrest home in Summerfield, FL golfing with new friends. When Ann retired from Cummins in 2002, they became full-time residents at Stonecrest.
John is survived by his wife, Ann W. Arterburn of Summerfield, FL and son, Shawn E. Arterburn (Amy) of Birmingham, AL, granddaughters Jacqueline M. Arterburn and Josephine E. Arterburn, who lovingly called him “Boomey,” brothers E. Ray Arterburn (Mary), Summerfield, FL and Bob Arterburn (Sandy), Columbus, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest B. and Beadie E. Arterburn; brothers Bill Arterburn and Larry Arterburn.
A Celebration of Life to honor John’s memory and legacy will be held on Saturday, February 22 from 3:00-5:00 PM at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus. Dress casually as that was John’s style.
On Tuesday, March 11 at 11:00 AM, a military ceremony for John will be held at the Veterans National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Arrangements made by Neptune Society.
