Prep sports notebook: Locals picked for All-Star Football Classic, All-State teams

Two local seniors have been selected to play in this year’s North-South All-Star Football Classic.

Columbus North offensive lineman Bryce Harriman and South Decatur running back-linebacker Corbin Johnson made the South team. The South will play the North at 7 p.m. July 11 at Decatur Central.

Local girls selected All-State

Four local girls athletes have been recognized on the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association All-State teams.

Columbus North senior Reese Euler is on the All-State Gymnastics first team.

North sophomore Kaylie Harmon and Jennings County junior Mollie Ernstes made the All-State Girls Basketball first team. North senior Hadassah Hurt is on the third team.

Olympians’ Hilderbrand headed to UIndy

Columbus East senior offensive lineman Noah Hilderbrand has committed to continue his football career at University of Indianapolis.

Bull Dogs named All-Conference Indiana

Several Columbus North girls and boys basketball players have been selected to this year’s All-Conference Indiana teams.

Kenna Conrad, Kaylie Harmon, Hadassah Hurt and Avery Johnson were named to the girls team. Caleb Ferguson and Austin Perry are on the boys first team, while Nate Enneking and Garrett Long are honorable mention selections.

Jets fans can go online for semistate tickets

The Class A No. 2 Jets (24-3) will play Class A No. 4 Orleans at 10 a.m. Saturday. Class A No. 1 Clay City (25-1) and Liberty Christian (18-8) will meet in the second semifinal at around noon. The semistate championship game will be at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Hauser will hold a pep session at 2:20 p.m. Friday, and if the Jets win Saturday night, will have another pep session at the school when the team returns from Seymour.

East boys volleyball opener moved

Columbus East’s boys volleyball season opener scheduled for Tuesday at home against Madison has been moved to May 6.

The Olympians now will open March 27 at Jeffersonville. Their first home game will be April 3 against Bloomington North.

Columbus North will open Saturday at the Carmel Invitational. The Bull Dogs first home game will be March 26 against Pike.

North to hold meeting for incoming freshman girls

Columbus North girls basketball coach Brett White will hold a brief informational meeting for incoming freshman girls basketball players and their parents at 6:30 p.m. March 26 in the Large Group Instructional (LGI) room at North High School.

The meeting will include information about upcoming team activities in the spring and summer and the sizing and ordering of practice gear that will be used during summer games and throughout the season. Players or parents should have payment for the gear that evening.
