BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY — Due to flooding conditions in Bartholomew County, the county’s Travel Status is now at an Advisory level.
Advisory is the lowest level of local travel advisory, means that routine travel or activities may be restricted in areas because of a hazardous situation, and individuals should use caution or avoid those areas.
The Bartholomew County Rescue Team, made up of Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies and Columbus Township firefighters, conducted two more rescues Saturday afternoon in back to back callouts.
Sheriff department spokesman Sgt. Dane Duke said the team was sent to the 6000 block of West County Road 250S to rescue an man who drove into high water and his vehicle became disabled.
They were also sent to the 14000 block of South County Road 600E to rescue a mother and a 1-year-old who also drove into high water and became stuck.
There were no injuries reported.
The sheriff’s department again reminds residents that high water and road closed signs should be obeyed as they serve as full notice that the road is impassable and vehicles cannot make it through the high water.
They have warned they will ticket drivers who ignore road closed signs creating the need for water rescues.
There have been three water rescues so far on Saturday.
