New flood warning extends to Tuesday in Bartholomew County, river levels updated

COLUMBUS, Ind. — The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a new flood warning that continues through 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

According to forecasters, flooding from prior excessive rainfall is ongoing, after about 7.5 inches of rain fell on Bartholomew County late last week.

The new flood warning is in effect for the cities of Bloomington, Terre Haute, Columbus, Shelbyville, Greenwood,

Franklin, Martinsville, Mooresville, Brazil, Spencer, Nashville, Ellettsville, New Whiteland, Edinburgh, Whiteland and Bargersville.

Bartholomew County Emergency Management has issued the latest road closing list for flooding and high water. The city of Columbus has provided directions to access the city which are listed here:

Traveling into Columbus on Monday:

City officials recommend the following routes to get into Columbus and avoid the flooded areas this week.

If you are coming from I-65 North, use Exit 76 at Taylorsville to U.S. 31 and travel south into Columbus.

If you are coming from I-65 South, use Exit 76 at Taylorsville to U.S. 31 and travel south into Columbus.

If you are coming from the west side of Columbus, go south on Goeller Boulevard. Turn south on Terrace Lake Road. Turn left (east) on 200S. Take 200S to State Road 11, and take State Road 11 to 450S. From 450S, take I-65 North to Exit 76 at Taylorsville to U.S. 31 and travel south into Columbus.

If you are coming from State Road 11, take State Road 11 to 450S. Take 450S to I-65 North to Exit 76 at Taylorsville to U.S. 31 and travel south into Columbus.

 

River updates

Driftwood River, Edinburgh

Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast for the Driftwood River near Edinburgh until early Thursday morning.
At 9:30 a.m. Monday the Driftwood River stage was 16.1 feet.a.m. Monday was 16.6 feet.
The river is expected to fall below flood stage Wednesday afternoon and continue falling and remain below flood stage.
Flood stage is 11.0 feet.

Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast for the Flatrock River near Columbus until late Tuesday.

At 10:30 a.m., the stage was 14.8 feet. The maximum river state in the 24 hours ending at 10:30 a.m. Monday was 16.2 feet. The river is expected to fall below flood stage
Tuesday afternoon and continue falling and remain below flood stage.
Flood stage is 11.0 feet.

At 10 a.m. Monday the stage was 16.5 feet.
The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 10 a.m. Monday was 17.1 feet.
The river is expected to fall below flood stage late Wednesday morning and continue falling and remain below flood stage.
Flood stage is 9.0 feet.

Roads Closed:

As part of flood clean up, westbound 10th Street, at the bridge over Haw Creek, will be restricted to one lane Monday afternoon beginning at approximately 1 p.m. The lane closure is expected to last a couple of hours. Motorists are asked to avoid the area, but if you must take 10th Street, please slow down and use caution.
