Leo Iorio // Columbus North junior volleyball player
Iorio led the Bull Dogs with 20 kills and 12 digs in a four-set win against Shelbyville and 15 kills and 26 digs in a four-set win over New Albany.
His performance last week: “It was nice to get two wins. I think that was the important part, getting the wins for the team, and I felt like I contributed the best I could, so I was happy with that.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I have a routine before games where I’ll put in my headphones and listen to music and then stretch and visualize what I want to do. That helps me get locked in.”
Favorite drink: “In the offseason, probably root beer. But during the season, I try to stick to water.”
Favorite food: “I really love some pork and vegetable dumplings. Those always hit the spot.”
Favorite class: “I really love my Radio and TV class.”
Favorite sports team: “I’m a big fan of FC Bayern Munich soccer team.”
Favorite athlete: “Tyrese Haliburton”
Role model: “My dad (Dr. Chris Iorio). I really look up to the way he carries himself and tries to be thoughtful of everyone around him.”
Best advice: “My soccer coach (Andy Glover) always tells me, worry about controlling the things you can control. Just do what you can do to the best of your ability.”
Athletics goal: “I want to try to win the sectional title in volleyball.”
If you could travel anywhere: “Italy, because that’s where my dad’s side of the family is from, and it would be really cool to visit.”

Summer Williams
Williams went 2 for 3 with a double in the Bull Dogs’ 4-3 season-opening loss at Indy Living Water HomeSchool.
Her performance last week: “It felt good to get back on the field and play with the returning girls from last season.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I pray before every game and every practice we have. Other than that, I just get ready and hone in on and prepare for what’s ahead.”
Favorite drink: “Dr. Pepper”
Favorite food: “Oatmeal Cream Pies. I love those things.”
Favorite class: “English. I’m an English nerd.”
Favorite sports team: “Oklahoma softball”
Favorite athlete: “(former Oklahoma and current professional softball player) Jocelyn Alo”
Role model: “Myself. I’ve gone through a lot of stuff in myself, and through everything I’ve gone through, I’ve persevered on my own.”
Best advice: “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t want to work hard. If you think you have the talent for it, hard work makes you go even farther.’’
Athletics goal: “I want to play college softball.”
If you could travel anywhere: “Germany, because I speak a little bit of the language, and it’s beautiful there..”
