Cabaret closes out its spring season with an evening of singing and storytelling with Patti Murin

Photo provided Cabaret at The Commons will conclude its spring season on May 15 with celebrated actress, singer and mental health advocate Patti Murin.

Patti Murin will be making her Columbus debut for the final Cabaret at the Commons performance of the spring 2025 season.

Murin will perform at 7:30 p.m. May 15 at The Commons in downtown Columbus.

From the Broadway stage to the television screen and even Audible’s online library, Murin’s career has taken her through several forms of media. She has appeared in multiple Hallmark movies as well as the TV shows “Chicago Med” and “Royal Pains,” according to the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic. She has also narrated several audiobooks from authors including Jodi Picoult, Christina Lauren and Katherine Center.

On the Broadway scene, she has starred in “Wicked,” “The Little Mermaid” and “Chicago.”

Perhaps her best known role, she also played Princess Anna in the original company production of “Frozen” on Broadway, a role that she calls the highlight of her career.

“… I have always been a huge Disney fan and obviously a huge Broadway fan and so that was just a lot of dreams that came true all at once,” Murin said.

Now that she is not performing multiple times a week, Murin said she has been lucky to book some upcoming concerts to keep on performing, the first of these shows being her Cabaret at the Commons performance. This show will feature Murin’s music director Will Reynolds accompanying her on the piano as they perform a variety of music, from Broadway and country to Disney and Taylor Swift. She will also be performing some lesser known songs from shows she has been in.

“A lot of them relate to personal stories, a song called ‘Cecily Smith’ from a musical called ‘Fly By Night’… I did that in 2014 and that’s actually how we ended up naming our first daughter,” Murin said. “We just loved the name Cecily and we were like, ‘well, let’s remember that one’ and when she was born, she was just always going to be Cecily. So it’s a song I like to share because it’s a great song and a great story.”

In addition to singing, Murin said she also loves sharing stories of her life and parts of herself with audiences. As a mental health advocate, she said she gives a bit of insight into her own mental health journey and loves the connection that is made between herself and the audience.

“I do love to sing but I think that that’s only part of what people are going to see when they come,” Murin said.

Murin said her Cabaret at the Commons performance is sure to be a lovely evening of singing and stories. She said she will definitely shed some tears in addition to many laughs, and she hopes the audience laughs too. While she has not performed in Columbus before, she said she has heard great things about the city and its people.

“I’ve really done shows in New York City and local to where I am and so this’ll be the first time that I feel like I’m going and performing in a city, like performers have been doing for decades,” Murin said. “And I’m excited that Columbus is my first because I’ve just heard such lovely things about it and the people. I think it’s going to be a really nice place to sort of get rid of my jitters. I don’t think I’m going to have many jitters once I actually get out on stage.”
