Looking Back – April 30

Five-year-old Jason White holds a 4-pound mushroom his grandfather, William Mayes, found on April 28, 1975, east of Columbus. The oversized mushroom was 11 inches long and 21 inches in circumference.

2015

Charles L. Evans, president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, was the keynote speaker at the Columbus Economic Development Board’s annual meeting at The Commons. Evans was a voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee.

2000

Columbus North Wind Ensemble and Columbus East Choir competed at the Indiana State School of Music Association State Finals in Indianapolis, with North placing 13th out of 17 in the Concert Band Contest.

1975

Columbus North High School senior Kathy McAuley was named Junior Achiever of the Year during the annual Junior Achievement of Columbus Future Unlimited Banquet at the Imperial House. McAuley received a $300 scholarship along with the award.
