Silver Creek nips East in five sets

SELLERSBURG — Columbus East twice battled back from one-set deficits Thursday night, but Silver Creek pulled out a 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-13 boys volleyball victory.

Alex Duncan led the Olympians (9-13) with eight kills, 24 assists four blocks and five aces. Ian Scholl notched 18 digs, and Justin Lopez had four blocks.

Also for East, Tyler Ernst recorded six kills and one block, and Scholl and Wenzler each added five kills and one block. Trevor Ernst tallied 14 digs and two aces, Duncan added six digs and Keaton Stephenson, Reid Coers and Kash Coers all served one ace.

“Time and time again, I come back to being so proud of this team,” East coach Kailey Smith said. “Tonight, we battled and never gave up, even when we were down. Point for point, set after set, we got after it tonight.”
