Margaret Ann Speakman, 82, of Columbus passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on April 30, 2025, at 12:45 p.m. at The Belmont Health and Rehabilitation. Born on March 1, 1943, in Sullivan, Indiana, the daughter of Eric and Margaret Jeanette Meek Thewlis. She grew a life rich in love, creativity, and kindness which touched the hearts of many around her.
Though a dedicated homemaker, Margaret engaged in her passions with vigor as a committed member of the Columbus Star Quilters. Her nimble fingers created masterpieces of comfort and beauty, a testament to her love of sewing and quilting. Margaret also expressed her artistic vision through painting, filling the lives of friends and family with vibrant strokes of joy.
Margaret’s life took a joyful turn when she married her beloved husband Jerry A. Speakman on February 15, 1969. Together they wove a tapestry of family and love that lasted until Jerry’s passing in 2019. Family was the cornerstone of her life, as she took pride in raising her daughters Sara Ray of New Port Richey, Florida, Susan (James) Stier of Seymour, Lisa (Eric) Likens of Columbus, and Lori (Andrew Douglas) Speakman of Columbus. Her nurturing spirit endures through her 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren who fondly remember her warmth and wisdom.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry, son-in-law Brian Ray, and grandson Bryan Ray. The lasting legacy of her loving, thoughtful, and kind nature will continue to live on through the lives of all who were fortunate enough to have been touched by her grace. Mrs. Margaret Ann Speakman will be profoundly missed, but the warmth of her memory remains forever in our hearts.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home.
In keeping with Mrs. Speakman’s wishes cremation will take place and a celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date.
