Columbus native and Indianapolis 500 princess Allison Grana visited her old school, Parkside Elementary, in an Indy 500 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 pace car. Students were invited to sit in the car and ask questions about the race and 500 Festival events.

2000

Columbus’ Joyce Tull, wife of former Cummins Engine Co. Chief Executive Officer E. Don Tull, was awarded an honorary doctorate of humane letters during a ceremony at Franklin College. Tull graduated from Franklin in 1939 with a bachelor’s degree and was a longtime supporter of the college.

1975

Columbus East High School and The Republic Building were honored for architectural excellence at the American Institute of Architects annual convention in Atlanta, Ga. The Cummins Engine Foundation also received the Citation of an Organization Award for its support of architecture in Columbus.
