See downtown Columbus in a whole new way with the Moonlight Loop Night Bike Ride, a charity event organized by the Friends of Columbus Animal Care Services to raise funds for their PetFix program.

At 9 p.m. on June 7, riders will begin at the Bartholomew County Library plaza before setting off for a leisurely 19-mile bike ride through downtown Columbus. Riders will be led by a Columbus Police Department squad car and a vehicle using flashers will follow the final cyclists at the rear. Officers will assist with traffic at all major intersections while volunteers will be at smaller intersections along the way.

The route will include a break at the SAG halfway point location at the Columbus Learning Center with restroom access and refreshments to allow everyone to regroup, according to columbus.in.gov. Riders are also encouraged to participate in the “Light Up the Night” contest by decorating yourself and your bike with all sorts of lights in a chance of winning a prize.

“It’s just always a fun event. You see a lot of people that maybe you wouldn’t see otherwise,” Director of Columbus Animal Care Services Nicohl Birdwell-Goodin said. “It’s just a fun, cheerful event, people enjoy doing it and seem to have a good time, and we absolutely appreciate the support.”

Registration, further rules and the full route are available on columbus.in.gov. Registration costs $35 until the night of the ride and $40 on race day. Volunteers are always needed, so to sign up to volunteer, contact moonlight@columbus.in.gov or call Animal Care Services at 812-376-2505 and ask for Birdwell-Goodin. Paper registrations are also available at Animal Care Services.
