Everyone is invited to celebrate the reopening and re-imagining of 6th Street as the new Arts Alley parklet in an unveiling ceremony featuring local talent and creativity.
Designed by Lulu Loquidis and Daniel Martinez of LAA Office, the new space includes a vibrant new mural, public furniture, a flexible layout, free public Wi-Fi and electrical access for concerts and vendors, according to artsincolumbus.org. Columbus Area Arts Council Executive Director Brooke Hawkins said they will be reopening the space June 6 with a commemorative bell ringing.
“So the Chamber of Commerce does the ribbon cuttings and so in the arts, we have an art bell that we ring when we celebrate something or have something new happen,” Hawkins said.
The reopening will see two local artists, Kelsey Finch and Ryan Murray, present exhibiting their works at the 411 Gallery, in addition to local chefs Chris Morrison and Joshua Ratliff providing an elevated food and drink experience, Hawkins said. The ceremony will also feature a live performance from Morgan Myles, an artist from Nashville, TN who is well-known for her powerful five-octave range and her third place finish on “The Voice.”
“… it’s kind of a big deal for Columbus to have a nationally known artist come and play on 6th Street, so we’re really excited about that,” Hawkins said. “And then also we’ll be highlighting local creative talent so we have an opening act DuoCasters… opening for Morgan, but really we’re celebrating the redesign of the street by local design firm, law office which is LAA, Landscape Art Architecture, Office…”
The celebration will be held June 6 from 6 to 10 p.m.. The event is free to attend.
