The Bartholomew County Public Library has issued a decree that all are invited to partake in festivities at its June 14 Renaissance Faire, to be held at The LEX.
The faire, the first of its kind to be held by the library, will feature Renaissance-themed activities including the magician Quibbleflop, animals from Utopia Wildlife Rescue and performances from the Mandolin Orchestra, according to Teen Programming Director Dakota Hall. Patrons can also look at a full set of knight’s armor, displayed by the North Vernon Vanguard.
Three food trucks, Snow Biz, Antojitos Rosita and Theo’s Food Truck, will be at the faire, in addition to bounce houses for kids and a maypole. Several community partners, including the Columbus Area Visitors Center, Mental Health Matters, Council for Youth Development Youth Ambassadors, Family School Partners and many others, will also be at the faire providing games and activities for guests, Hall said.
“I always love to see Utopia at things. I’m really excited that we have the Mandolin Orchestra, I think they’re going to be doing performances and also doing a little bit of wandering around, playing,” Hall said. “We’ll also have a story time that the Hope manager Dave (Miller) is doing and he’s playing this character where he’s just like a wandering storyteller and I think that’ll be really fun.”
As the library’s summer reading program is Renaissance-themed this year, Hall said they decided to put together a Renaissance Faire to tie into that theme. While this is the first Renaissance Faire they have held, he said it should be similar in terms of set up and layout to their fall festival from last year, which was also held at The LEX.
“I think that it’s just going to be a fun several hours of just constant things to do and I think we have a pretty diverse array of activities and it should be a really good time for pretty much anyone,” Hall said.
The event, aside from the food trucks, is free to attend. Patrons are also encouraged to wear costumes to the faire, though it is not required.
