COLUMBUS
Katherine L. Wilhelm, 63, of Columbus passed from this life on June 3, 2025, at 6:06 p.m. as a result of automobile accident. Born on March 28, 1962, in Columbus, Indiana to Robert J. and Martha Jane Calhoun Chasteen.
Katherine’s legacy is carried forward by her cherished nieces, Lindsey (Ryan) Perez of Westfield, Nikki (Nate O’Sullivan) Weddell of Freetown, Nancy (Charlie) Dunlap of Rensselaer; her eight great-nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Cindy (John) Wilhelmi of Columbus. Her life was also adorned by the laughter and love of numerous friends and colleagues who became like family to her. Katherine’s journey predestined her to heaven where she reunited with her parents; her brother, Albert G. Taylor; her sisters, Nancy Chasteen and Marcia J. Durham; and her special family friend, Eleanor Clear.
With a career at Franciscan Health as a dedicated administrator, Katherine’s professional life reflected her innate ability to lead with kindness and create a nurturing environment for all she worked with.
Beyond her professional achievements, Katherine’s soul was truly illuminated by her passion for animal welfare. As a board member of Canine Castaways Rescue, she embodied the spirit of a guardian angel for the countless dogs she fostered. Katherine’s contributions were immeasurable from her active participation in fundraisers to the meticulous care she took in ensuring each dog received the necessary medical attention. Her joy was most palpable when she matched rescue dogs with their forever homes, a testament to her loving nature.
Described as loving, kind, and gentle, Katherine’s character was a beacon of warmth in the lives she touched. Her memory will endure in the hearts of her family, the improved lives of the dogs she cared for, and the better world she left behind. Katherine’s imprint on this world was gentle, yet her impact was nothing short of profound. Her life was a beautiful reminder of the goodness that exists within the human spirit and the power of unconditional love.
We bid farewell to a soul that graced this earth with boundless love and gentleness. Ms. Katherine L. Wilhelm’s story is not one of an ending but a continuance of the love she shared a love that will forever resonate with those who were privileged to know her.
In keeping with Katherine’s wishes cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2025, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11:00a.m. till time of service at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.
