Bethel Holiness Church will soon welcome a new face to their congregation. Cameron Going, a pastor currently serving in Pennsylvania, will be joining Bethel following an installation service to take place this month.
Having grown up in the Christian church, Going later went on to attend and graduate from God’s Bible School and College. He has been pastoring for three years now and served as the youth minister at Beavertown God’s Missionary Church in Pennsylvania prior to coming to Bethel Holiness Church.
His connection to Bethel Holiness Church stems from his family being friends with current senior pastor Keith Waggoner, he said. According to Going, Waggoner and his family used to be song evangelists and would sing at churches throughout the country, including one where Going’s grandfather was pastor.
“… and so they would have Keith and Sharon for different revivals and whatnot and so through that, we’ve just always known of Keith and Sharon,” Going said. “And so, when we found out he was pastoring at Bethel, that was an exciting time, and then a little while later, he ended up contacting me to see if I’d be interested in coming and helping him in the work there at Bethel.”
Outside of just a few visits and a youth revival he participated in earlier this year as a guest speaker at Bethel Holiness Church, Going said he has not seen much of Columbus. From the few people he has met, Going said he and his wife are already loving the church and its people and they look forward to getting to know them better. His main goal in his new role, he said, will be to connect surrounding neighborhoods and young families to the church.
“As you look at the statistics, it feels like young people are moving more and more away from spiritual things and I feel like that’s a travesty,” Going said. “I think that everyone has a hole in their life that only God can fill and especially when we’re talking about young families, I want to do our best to show them the love of Jesus and bring them to a strong faith community that will love them and that will take care of them and that will show them what God wants to do for them in their life.”
Going will be officially installed as assistant pastor during an installation service to be held on June 22 at 10:30 a.m., and Waggoner said they are thrilled to have Going join them. He said that Going will not only help in building their youth ministry, but their next generation demographic, or those who are 40 and below, and in ministering beyond the walls of their church in the greater Columbus community.
“For one thing, he’s going to bring youth and enthusiasm and the guy has an incredible work ethic. Where he’s at, he has been extremely successful, so we are just really excited about him bringing a whole new dimension to the church,” Waggoner said. ”The church has not had young leadership for years and we’re just really excited about bringing a youthful approach to the church…”
