JENNINGS COUNTY — The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will host an informational meeting regarding the State Road 7 imrpovement plan on Wednesday, June 25. The meeting will take place at Jennings County High School and will be open to the public.
Over 100 community members attended the initial informational meeting, leading officials to anticipate a similar attendance. The aim of the meeting is to address any community concerns and answer any additional questions residents may have, said Sidney Nierman, public relations director for INDOT Southeast.
The plan to improve State Road 7 by installing shoulders and a middle turn lane at specific locations was conceived in an effort to improve safety and mobility along the corridor.
The project is currently scheduled to begin fall 2028, and will expected to take up to three years, Nierman said. The proejct will require single-lane closures.
The project will being at the intersection of State Road 7 and U.S. 5 in North Vernon, extending 14.5 miles to the intersection of State Road 7 and U.S. 31 in Columbus.
A specific improvement to the road is widening shoulders along the span of road and expanding the road to three lanes, one travel lane in each direction and turn lane, in four locations. There will also be sidewalk improvements in Scipio and the State Road 7 bridge will be widened over Fishers Fork.
Doors to the event will oopen at 5:30 p.m. to allow community members to speak with project personnel, followed by an information presentation beginning at 6 p.m.
