Thousands of people are without power after strong storms ripped through the county late Wednesday afternoon.

The fast-moving storm knocked down trees and powerlines from Grandview Lake to the town of Hope. Multiple traffic signals in Columbus are not operational, and emergency personnel are responding to multiple calls related to storm damage across the county.

According to the Duke Energy outage map, between 6,000 and 7,000 customers in Columbus and the surrounding areas are without power. The Bartholomew County REMC outage map is showing around 2,100 customers are without power.

Duke Energy and Bartholomew County REMC have not provided an estimate for when power will be restored.
