Two members of the Columbus North girls tennis team have been selected Academic All-State by the Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association.
Bull Dog seniors Annabelle Sun and Ayana Umemura made the Academic All-State team. North, Columbus East and Trinity Lutheran have been selected Team Academic All-State.
North senior Aya Saad made second-team All-State Singles, and Sun and junior Nino Akhalaya are second-team All-State Doubles. North junior Lucy Bergman and Jennings County junior Kaydence Lowman made honorable mention singles and joined Saad, Sun and Akhalaya on the All-District 8 team.
North, East volleyball players honored
Eight Columbus North and five Columbus East boys volleyball players have received the Gold Award for Academic-All-State.
North seniors Sam Gupta, Hank Lin and Parth Shah and juniors Ramu Alagappin, Noah Dornfeld, Ankiet Ghatge, Anyu Gong, Leo Iorio won the Gold Award, along with East seniors Alex Duncan, Tyler Ernst, Jon Ruch, Ian Scholl and Alex Wenzler. East senior Grayson Watters and North junior Truman Taylor earned the Silver Award.
Duncan and Scholl were named first-team All-Region. Ernst, Wenzler and Iorio made honorable mention All-Region.
Track athletes selected Academic All-State
Three Columbus North boys, four North girls and one Jennings County boy have been named Academic All-State by the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches.
North seniors Ben Stevens and Neal White and junior Gideon Roukas and Jennings senior Derek Ross made the boys first team. North seniors Sam Brown, Matt Burge, Flint Santi DeLuna and Jonny Klaus and juniors Sam Steinmetz and Jace Works, Hauser senior Luke Bruner and Jennings senior Maddix Elston and junior David Dixon are honorable mention selections.
North seniors Macy Eaton and Sierra Newell and juniors Gabby Revell and Lily Miller are on the girls first team. North seniors Katie Frazier and Kyleigh Wolf and Jennings senior Kennedy Woods made honorable mention.
Bull Dogs named All-Conference Indiana
Several Columbus North athletes have been selected to All-Conference Indiana teams in spring sports.
Juniors Payton Morris and Bailee Scruggs from the Conference Indiana champion softball team made the All-Conference squad. Senior Lily Retz and juniors Morgan Jarvis, Miley McClellan and Avery Shehan are honorable mention selections.
Junior Brock Kintner and freshman Jack Whaley are on the All-Conference baseball team. Seniors Jayce Emmitt and Joey Fry made honorable mention.
Seniors Aya Saad and Annabelle Sun and juniors Lucy Bergman and Nino Akhalaya represent the Bull Dogs on the All-Conference girls tennis team.
Senior Kota Kondo, juniors Noah Dornfeld and Leo Iorio and sophomore Yuta Kondo made the Inaugural All-Conference Indiana boys volleyball team.
Olympians, Panthers selected All-HHC
A few Columbus East and Jennings County softball and baseball players have been named to All-Hoosier Hills Conference teams.
East sophomore Baleigh Fish and Jennings senior Claire Hack and sophomore Maycie Ward made the All-HHC softball team. Panthers junior Riley Byford and Olympians sophomore Lola Watkins are honorable mention selections.
East sophomore JD Rotert and Jennings freshman Ethan Speer are on the All-HHC baseball team. Panthers junior Alex Brooks made honorable mention.
Bull Dogs playing football scrimmages
Columbus North has a few informal football scrimmages scheduled for this summer.
The Bull Dogs will host Floyd Central at 6 p.m. June 26. North will scrimmage at Lawrence North at 1:15 p.m. July 12 and will host East Central at 5:30 p.m. July 16 before participating in a team camp July 21-23 at Taylor University.
The Bull Dogs were scheduled to scrimmage Wednesday evening at Fishers against Fishers, Cathedral and Martinsville, but that was canceled because of storms.
North’s controlled scrimmage will be Aug. 15 at New Palestine. The regular season begins Aug. 22 at home against Whiteland.
Bowlds picked as Brown County AD
Josh Bowlds is the new athletics director at Brown County, replacing Mark Bruner.
One of Bowlds’ first tasks as AD will be to hire a new girls basketball coach. Bob Susemichel resigned after one season.
