INDIANAPOLIS — The State Budget Committee Wednesday approved funding for repairs to the Horsemen’s Camp at Brown County State Park.
The camp sustained “devastating” damage during a tornado on May 16, said Sen. Eric Koch, R-Bedford and Rep. Dave Hall, R-Brown County. Other damage included uprooted trees, damaged roads, vehicles and riding paths, worsened by heavy machinery during cleanup efforts.
Koch and Hall worked with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to find unused repair and rehabilitation funds for the camp. The funds came from the McCormick’s Creek tornado damage fund, which originally contained $5 million.
The State Budget Committee reallocated the funds, acknowledging that the camp is a vital asset to locals and visitors, contributing over $320,000 annually.
There is no word yet on when repairs will start, but Hall is hopeful that the process will begin soon.
