A crowd of about 500 people filled the Central Middle School gym for the Live on the Plaza event, which was moved from the Bartholomew County Public Library plaza due to poor weather. The 21-member band MarchFourth! performed, getting nearly the whole crowd dancing.
2000
The Columbus City Council unanimously approved a city-county central dispatch, which was previously approved by the Bartholomew County Commissioners. Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department switched their radio to Columbus Police Department’s 800 megahertz system after the approval.

Charlotte Sellers, regional news editor for The Republic, won first place in the National Federation of Press Women, Inc. awards for three front pages of the Week Ender section, which appeared on Saturdays in the paper.
