Heat advisory to continue in area through Tuesday

COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County remains under a Heat Advisory through 8 p.m. Tuesday.  Extreme Heat Category is starting today and peaking on Monday.

Timing:

  • Heat Advisory – Sunday through Tuesday at 8 p.m.
  • NWS Extreme Heat Category – Sunday and peaking on Monday

Main Threats:

  • Daily heat index values peaking in the 100-105 degree range. This is dangerous, prolonged heat, with little overnight relief due to lows in the mid-70s and high humidity.
  • Potential for heat illness, particularly for vulnerable populations and those without access to cooling.

Actions/What To Do:

  • Be weather aware.
  • Limit outdoor activities this weekend into next week.
  • Check on those vulnerable to heat – the very young, elderly, infirm, or those without access to adequate cooling.
  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of fluids.
  • Know the signs of heat illness.
  • Don’t forget about your four-legged friends during the ongoing heat.  Take these steps to keep your pets safe from harm.
