The Bartholomew County Commissioners on Monday approved road closures in Mineral Springs, scheduled for just over two weeks from now.
Neighbors wanted to close a few streets in the area for a Fourth of July event from 10 a.m. to noon, according to county officials.
Commissioner Tony London, R-District 3, said a parade is planned and the road closings will allow for it to legally go forward.
“Our ordinances don’t allow golf carts and things like that on public streets, but this would give them a short window of time where they could have their parade and do it lawfully,” London said, adding that any motorized vehicles part of the parade will need to be operated by licensed drivers.
According to a road closure map provided to the commissioners, the closures involve South Aspen Road from Brush Creek Drive up to East Broadmore Drive. It then follows Sand Creek Drive to East Karlsway Drive, ending at the intersection of East Forster Ave and South Midland Ave.
London said on social media last week that the commissioners in the near-future will begin considering an ordinance “that would loosen some restrictions on golf carts and some UTVs in the unincorporated areas of the county.”
