GREENFIELD –– At the request of Greenfield Police Chief Brian Hartman, detectives from the Indiana State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting. This is an active and ongoing investigation at this time, the information below is preliminary, state police said.
On Monday, July 7, at approximately 9:20 p.m., officers from the Greenfield Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call on Sedgewick Lane. When the officers arrived at the residence, 54-year-old Ted Feasel answered the door but then quickly closed it when they attempted to speak with him. The officers continued to communicate with Feasel through the door. Eventually, the officers opened the door and were confronted by Feasel, who was standing close by and pointing a handgun directly at them while they remained outside, state police said.
In response, three officers fired their weapons, wounding Feasel. The officers then moved in to provide emergency medical care, while other officers began to clear the residence to search for any other potential injured individuals. Paramedics arrived shortly afterward and transported Feasel to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. No officers or bystanders were injured during this incident.
The involved officers were 10-year veteran Blake Crull, 6-year veteran Jarrod Davis, and 5-year veteran Ryan Morefield. The officers were equipped with body worn cameras, that footage has been reviewed by detectives. Per standard department protocol, they have been placed on administrative leave.
Indiana State Police Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene to investigate. At the conclusion of the investigation, the findings will be turned over to the Hancock County Prosecutor for review.
