I-65 weekend closure to resume this weekend south of Indy

INDIANAPOLIS – Northbound I-65 in southeast Indianapolis will close this weekend as crews continue progress on drainage improvements beneath the interstate. Northbound I-65 is scheduled to close at 9 p.m. on Friday, July 25, and reopen by 6 a.m. on Monday, July 28.

The closures extend from the I-65/I-465 interchange to the I-65/I-70 interchange and include the following northbound I-65 ramps:

  • Eastbound I-465 to northbound I-65
  • Westbound I-465 to northbound I-65
  • Keystone Avenue entrance/exit ramps
  • Raymond Street entrance/exit ramps
  • Morris Street/Prospect Street exit ramp

Traffic will be detoured using I-465 and I-70. Drivers should look for signage along the roadway for guidance.

The previously postponed southbound I-65 closure has been rescheduled to the second weekend of August. Southbound I-65 will close from 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, through 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 11, for continued drainage work. Additional details on affected ramps will be shared closer to the closure date.

Bridge Demolition over Morris Street and Prospect Street

Additionally, starting Thursday, nightly closures of Morris Street and Prospect Street are scheduled for demolition of the I-65 northbound bridge over those roadways.

Morris Street and Prospect Street are scheduled to close nightly between St. Patrick Street and the I-65 southbound ramp from Thursday, July 24, to Saturday, July 26, for demolition of the I-65 bridge. Closures are planned between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. each night. Overnight lane closures are also planned on I-65 during demolition operations.

Crews are rehabilitating the I-65 bridge with a new deck and beams as part of the Safety and Efficiency project.

Actual dates and anticipated work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances occur. Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time, when possible.

Construction Speed Limit

The construction zone speed limit remains active on I-65. A reduced speed of 45 mph is in place for the duration of I-65 Safety and Efficiency work. It is important for drivers to slow down and avoid distractions in work zones.
