City brings dietitian on board to help employees

City officials have approved an addendum to their current agreement for use of Columbus Regional Health’s Employer Health Partnership (EHP) Clinic to add on the services of a dietitian.

The Columbus Board of Works approved the proposal, which is a one-year, renewable agreement where the city and BCSC will each pay $2,000 per month for the dietitian, who will work with employees of both the school corporation and the city.

The dietitian will help patients in particular who are managing weight and metabolic conditions, including those discontinuing GLP-1 medications.

“Industry trends and data review has shown that a notable percentage of individuals covered under various employers of Columbus health plans are prescribed weight effecting medications,” a proposal background reads. “Many patients, however, discontinue use within the first few months for a variety of reasons.”

This trend highlights the importance of having additional clinical support available, like a dietitian, to help people maintain progress and build sustainable, long-term lifestyle habits, the proposal continues.

The proposal states that the dietitian will be onsite at the EHP Clinic 10 hours per week, and provide one-on-one nutritional counseling, patient education, chronic disease management support and care coordination with primary care providers, according to city documents.
