COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office will be increasing traffic patrols in order to observe for drivers violating Indiana’s school bus stop arm laws as school begins Wednesday for Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. and Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Corp.
The Sheriff’s Office has teamed up with the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. in order to increase safety involving these violations. There will be extra deputies assigned to this detail, which is being made possible with funding from the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
As a reminder, not only is it a traffic infraction to pass a school bus with the stop arm extended and red lights flashing, but it can become a criminal misdemeanor or felony under the reckless driving statute, and your license can be suspended. Please observe for increased traffic both vehicular and on-foot as school begins.
