Family fun on the farm awaits as FarmJam, presented by Reeves, returns for its second year at the Historic Henry Breeding Farm on Saturday.
According to Bartholomew County Historical Society Executive Director Diane Robbins, FarmJam had its start last year. This year’s FarmJam will combine live bands and food trucks, with the organization’s Reeves Festival, which has been running for more than 20 years, she said.
“Reeves Fest… the focus was on all of the Reeves equipment and had various looks throughout the years,” Robbins said. “It’s been a pancake breakfast, it’s been a Saturday afternoon, so it’s kind of had several looks to the event.”
Last year’s FarmJam featured The Revelators, who will be returning for this year’s FarmJam, and One Night Only with Allen Purtlebaugh.
“We had over 200 people there,” Robbins said of last year’s event. “And the goal of both events, both FarmJam and anything we do with Reeves Equipment, is to activate the Henry Breeding Farm and share with people that wonderful space, give them exposure to the farm. Everything we do out there is to get people to the farm so they can enjoy it.”
At this year’s FarmJam, guests of all ages may watch a blacksmithing demonstration, participate in a hit miss engine demonstration involving corn shelling and grinding and a wheat threshing demonstration utilizing Reeves equipment. Steam engines will also in operation during the event.
“The Master Gardeners will be out there sharing information about their garden and have some activities planned, and a scavenger hunt for kids will be part of their presentation,” Robbins said.
Craft stations will also be available including mosaic art with beans, making wreaths out of wheat and an archaeological dig, Robbins said. The band Cotton Patch will be performing from 4:30 to 6 p.m., followed by The Revelators from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Food trucks by Miels on Wheels and Party Chef will be present, in addition to a cash bar by the Garage Pub and Grill.
Tickets cost $15 per car in advance and can be purchased on Eventbrite or at the Bartholomew County Historical Society museum. Tickets cost $20 at the gate. All proceeds from the event benefit the Bartholomew County Historical Society.
