The Columbus East and Columbus North athletics departments both will be hosting their annual kickoff events Saturday.
East will host its Tailgate Party from 4 to 7 p.m. in the south parking lot. There will be music, along with games, food trucks and bounce houses for kids.
North will host its annual Blue and White Night beginning at 5 p.m. at Max Andress Field. The evening will conclude with the annual Blue-White football scrimmage at 7:30 p.m.
Jennings has new athletics director
Joe Hartwell is the new athletics director at Jennings County.
Hartwell was the boys basketball coach for the Panthers from 2012-16. He previously had been the coach at South Decatur in 2005-06 and again in 2009-10.
Hartwell replaces Cory Stevens, who took a job in the Chicago suburbs.
Hauser getting new tennis courts
The Hauser boys tennis team will be on the road the entire fall season because of the construction of new courts at the school.
The Jets were to host Columbus East Aug. 16 to open the season, but those two teams now will play at Greenwood that day.
