Ethan Glick // Columbus East sophomore soccer player

Glick scored the game’s lone goal Saturday to give the Olympians’ a season-opening 1-0 win at Whiteland.

His performance last week: “It was kind of a slow start. It was super hot out, but once I started making the runs and the right plays, I got a great ball from my winger, Josh (VanValkenburg). Everyone on the team played a great game.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Usually, I just listen to some music, usually country or rap. Before the game, I say a prayer, and I touch the field and my shin guards.”

Favorite drink: “Lemonade or water”

Favorite food: “Steak with mashed potatoes”

Favorite class: “Principles of Agriculture”

Favorite sports team: “Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers”

Favorite athlete: “Lionel Messi”

Role model: “My dad (Trevor Glick)”

Best advice: “Don’t care about other peoples’ opinions, and just do what you love.’’

Athletics goal: “I would love to play college soccer.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Alaska, for the natural beauty. I’m more of a winter guy, and it’s colder up there.”

Grace Oden // Jennings County sophomore golfer

Grace Oden

Oden won medalist honors with a 46 in a dual-match win at Columbus North and finished fourth individually with a 91 in Saturday’s Madison Invitational.

Her performance last week: “I enjoyed playing Wednesday (at Harrison Lake Country Club). It was a nice course, and I was just having fun, and we won to that day, which felt nice, and then Saturday, it was hot, and I came in fourth as an individual, which felt great.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I have a good breakfast, I try to relax and focus and think how my game is going to be. I just try to think about positive things and try to do my best.”

Favorite drink: “Water”

Favorite food: “I really like pasta and steak.”

Favorite class: “I like math a lot.”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana University”

Favorite athlete: “Tiger Woods”

Role model: “My grandma and grandpa (Phyllis and Mike Brooks). My grandpa taught me how to golf, and my grandma has always been there to help support.”

Best advice: “Keep your head down and your eye on the ball, because you can’t hit what you can’t see.”

Athletics goal: “I would like to go to college and get a scholarship, but for this year I would like to be able to go to regional with my team and maybe even state.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I would like to go to Georgia because The Masters is played there, and it would be cool to see that.”
